Guru Poornima

Significance of Guru Poornima –

Hindus attach permanent importance to spiritual gurus – their teachers on matters of religion and spiritual growth.

Gurus are regarded as a link between the individual and the immortal, to such an extent that they are sometimes equated with God. Hinduism offers sacred day devoted to honouring the guru. It is called Guru Poornima.

Later on the auspicious day, the sacred worship of the guru’s feet is performed. The students also recite Guru mantras.

On this day, the period of Chaturmasa begins. Traditionally, this was the time when wondering masters and their disciples settled down in a single place to conduct vedantic discussions. There is a continuous spiritual discussion called “satsang”.

Guru Poornima is basically the festivals of the ‘seekers’ – the seekers of the divine wisdom, knowledge, spiritually, peace and greater prudence.
